Toy Company To Create A Weapon With Variable Velocities

It sounds like a plot from an action-comedy movie: the U.S. Army has contracted a toy manufacturer to create a gun that is capable of firing bullets at variable speeds. The weapon, known as the Variable Velocity Weapon System, will be equipped with adjustable velocities in order to wound or kill its target. With a simple tweak on the muzzle, shooters will be able to change their projectiles from lethal to non-lethal in an instant.

In an interview with NewScientist, Bruce Lund, CEO of Lund and Company Invention, explained the gun mixes a liquid with gas and air in a combustion chamber behind the bullet. The variation of this combination would determine the explosive capability and thus the bullet velocity.

A toy company creating a real gun? If it works, I'll wait for the toy version. Maybe it'll have "bruise" and "tickle" settings.
