Microsoft Releases Internet Explorer 8 Beta

Microsoft released Internet Explorer 8 beta 1 today. And I don't even have version 7 installed yet.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, Microsoft. The company has just released a public beta version of their new web browser, Internet Explorer 8. The supposedly-standards compliant browser showed up out of nowhere this afternoon on the company's site. Available immediately, you should be able to install the software on any machine running Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows 2003 Server edition.

As you can tell, this came out of nowhere. Microsoft managed to keep this under wraps effectively, so even rumors regarding this release were scant. If you're interested in downloading the beta, click here.

I wonder why Microsoft released this so quietly. The whole point of conducting a beta is to get feedback from your testers. And what do you do to get those testers? An announcement is usually enough to get participants to sign up, but bigger companies can offer incentives in order to get more people. Considering the stealthy release, is there something in the software that we shouldn't know about?
