MicroSD: The New Source For Music?

Not content to merely provide storage for millions of cell phone and small device users around the world, Sandisk has recently announced SlotMusic, their first step into the world of digital music.

SlotMusic will feature full albums on 1gig MicroSD cards. The cards can pop right into your cell phone and will retail for about the price of a CD. The best part? They're re-writable and have no DRM -- that means when you're tired of the album you can store it on your PC and use the card for something else. The New York Times has the full story;

SanDisk, with the backing of the four major music labels, is announcing on Monday an initiative called SlotMusic to put entire albums on MicroSD cards. Wal-Mart Stores and Best Buy have agreed to sell the cards, which will be available later this year.

What do you think? Is this the salvation of physical music storage? Or will it be the industry's last real stab at taking on the digital distribution model?
