Hands-On With The Sony PRS-700 Reader

sonyreader10.jpg

Sony is riding the electronic reader bandwagon once again with the PRS-700. Here's the hands-on conclusion:

Like the other Sony Readers it's not super responsive (which makes touch controls more frustrating as a rule), but it gets the job done. It's worth noting that Kindle has been able to take notes since the beginning, and it adds web connectivity to the mix, of course. But if you're a chronic underliner and margin scribbler like me and you favor Sony for your e-booking, it's probably worth the premium.

So the Kindle is still the gold standard. I wonder if I'll ever make the transition from paper to digital reading. And yes, considering that this device is from Sony, I also can't help but think about what proprietary technology it will use on it. The company isn't exactly known for using existing ones made and used by other firms.

If you're interested in this Sony reader, it will hit you for about $400 USD. Expect it to become available next month.
