This post has little to do with technology or gadgetry per se, but Microsoft's involvement means that what's about to be reported here could be something you'll see in your office sometime soon. If you've ever become part of any business or corporation, then you know that if you want to be taken seriously by others, certification is the key. Getting certified means you have the right processes and tools to get the job done. Seeing that third-party logo on your website or office gives potential clients the confidence to know that your business is following certain standards.
The drive to go green, to become environmentally-friendly, has become so necessary that, you guessed it, there is now a body that will issue certificates for it. And Microsoft is already part of the action.
Microsoft’s food service operations on its Redmond, Wash., campus are being held up as being the first in the United States to meet the Certified Green Restaurant standards. It’s doing all the things you might expect, like recycling products, using sustainable sourcing, switching to eco-friendly cleaning products and so forth.
We're only talking about restaurants now, but expect things to branch off from there. It's not hard to imagine how another body will certify your office for following green standards. Are you using recycled paper when you can? Do you have an environmentally-friendly waste disposal process in place? Those questions could be part of your next big inspection, so if you're a manager, you might want to look into it.
