Flash Drives Go Online To Backup

Flash drives are all too common these days. Choosing one reminds me of the times when I had to buy a recordable cassette tape back then: all you had to do was look at the storage capacity and the price. Brand names mattered, but not too much. Fancy packaging and labels were great to look at, but they weren't that important either. So how can a flash drive stand out from the rest? SanDisk hopes to find the answer by providing a service. Excerpts:

SanDisk Corp introduced a new flash storage drive on Wednesday that also automatically backs up data to the Internet. The Cruzer, which retails for $59.99 and goes on sale in March, will come with four gigabytes of storage and provide six months of free online backup, After that period, a user pays $29.99 a year to continue the online storage service.

It's a great bonus, if you ask me. Being able to recover your files online in the event of data loss is a good benefit. Is it worth $29.99? You decide.
