Concept Device To Teach Guitar Through Lasers

Everybody knows that games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are not meant to be used as substitutes for the real thing, even with the peripherals and all. If they happen to inspire you to grab actual instruments, then maybe playing the games will prove to be worthwhile in the end.

Now, here's a concept design from Eugene Cheong that you can use to turn the tables a bit. Called the Maestro, it uses lasers to teach you how to play guitar. Instead of bringing the instrument to the game, bring the game to the instrument.

Put simply, the device accepts MP3 files via SD card, and then it breaks down the tunes into tablature which can be displayed via lasers. Once you see the beams lighting up your fretboard, you mash / strum in order to keep up and "learn" the songs.

Although technically not a game, you can probably see that it's going to feel like one because it uses lasers as a teaching aid. Will this device actually see the end of a production line? We'll see, but I think it's only a matter of time before we start seeing rhythm game-inspired musicians.
