Canadian Hacking Network Busted

The largest hacking network operating in Canada has been busted. Targeting unprotected computers in the United States, Poland, Brazil and Manitoba, the hackers used Trojans and worms to infiltrate "as many as one million computers" worldwide. 16 people were arrested as a result of the investigation.

Police won't reveal what the information was used for but investigators estimate that the network profited by as much as $45 million.
The 14 suspects arrested Wednesday are between the ages of 17 and 26, and face charges related to the unauthorized use of computers.

Trojans, as the name implies, are malicious programs that mask themselves as beneficial software. They can be used for a variety of purposes, though obviously the more notorious ones are those that involve taking control of a computer. There are several antivirus software that can be used to detect and remove Trojans, so it's a good idea to check out product reviews and invest in one. Believe me, you don't ever want to be counted among the infiltrated.
